DANCE REHEARSALS
Dance rehearsals are held WEDNESDAY NIGHTS at the Chuck MacLean Arts Centre, 4809
- 52 Street, Camrose, Alberta. Rehearsals run anywhere from 30 minutes for our
youngest dancers to 2 hours for our senior dancers. Our dance season runs from
September until May. We have anywhere from 5-6 dance groups ranging in age from
as young as 3-4 years old, to our adult group. Group placements are determined
by our instructors after the first two rehearsals in September, and final group
placements and exact rehearsal times are typically set no later than the first Wednesday
in October. Parent viewing will be at the invitation of the instructors.
Dancers also have the option for solo, duet and trio instruction, which can be arranged
directly with the instructors. Fees for solos, duets, and trios are determined
by the instructors and these costs are in addition to regular dance fees.
DANCE REHEARSAL ATTIRE
The following attire is compulsory for rehearsals:
Girls:
- Black leggings, shorts or capris
- Black tank top or T-shirt
- Girls hair must be pinned up and in a bun
- No Jewellery
- Dance slippers
Boys
- Black leggings or shorts
- Black T-Shirt
- No Jewellery
- Dance slippers
In late September/early October, our Club will host a shoe sale (shoes, slippers, tights etc) of the items our instructors are requesting for our dancers.
This will occur at Chuck MacLean Arts Centre during our rehearsal time on a Wednesday. Items will be available to purchase that evening.
ADVERSE WEATHER
Safety of our dancers and instructors is of the utmost importance. Occasionally,
through the winter months, we experience dangerous winter driving conditions. Classes
can be cancelled if road conditions involve poor visibility, freezing rain, or blizzard
like conditions. In the case of a cancelled class, you will receive a text on the Remind App.
COSTUME INFORMATION
Most of our costumes are club owned, and are purchased from Ukraine. Rental
fees range from $25-50 per costume, for the season.
PERFORMANCES
We perform on stage at different community events throughout the year, such as Festival
of Trees in November and Jaywalker's Jamboree in June. We usually enter in TWO
festivals each year, which generally take place in March or April. We also put
on our own events: Malanka Ukrainian New Year's Celebration in January, and our
Spring Year End Concert in April or May.
FUNDRAISING
Fundraising is mandatory, as it helps keep dance fees at a reasonable rate and has
allowed for the purchase of club-owned costumes and equipment. Fundraising commitments
vary from year to year, depending on the number of dancers and whether or not it
is a Casino year.
